Large Brush Fire with Shed Explosion on Mosley Lane
Sun. Jan 22nd 2012

At approximately 12:32 p.m this afternoon the Alpine Fire Department was called to a large brush fire that started off of the 300 block of south Mosley Lane.  The fire originated off in a pasture inside a fence line.  Today was a Red Flag day for our area and gusty winds intensified the fire as it moved to the east-southeast.  As the fire reached the area near Scott Road the fire ignited a water well shed and adjoining small storage shed.  The water well shed exploded throwing shrapnel and debris to the east toward the fire units fighting the shed fire.  A large cylinder in the debris was found shredded.  The exact cause of the explosion is not known at this time.  No one was injured in the explosion.  The well shed was completely destroyed and the storage shed had extensive interior structure fire damage.  An adjoining propane tank was secured at the site.  The brush fire burned approximately 5 acres.  No other structures or homes were damaged or destroyed.  There were 4 brush trucks, 1 tanker, 1 engine company and 2 command units that responded with 19 firefighters to the blaze.  Approximately 5500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fires.  The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
