9/11 Ceremony Dedicating WTC Artifact Memorial at Alpine USBP Headquarters
Sun. Sep 11th 2011

Today at 2 p.m. the USBP and dignitaries unveiled and dedicated a World Trade Center artifact memorial for the public to view in front of hundreds of guests.  The USBP ceremony included bagpipes, bugle with taps and a 21 gun salute during the event.  The USBP also unveiled a US Flag which flew over the WTC site.  The ceremony marks the day when the United States Border Patrol had their groundbreaking ceremony 10 years ago for the new station in Alpine at the very moments the attacks on the World Trade Center occurred.  On that morning, the scheduled lengthy ceremony was cut short and all of the agencies went into alert mode for the attacks that occurred nearly 2000 miles away.   Ten years later, the station is fully operational and has now become the home for a twisted piece of I-Beam from one of the Twin Towers built into a very nice memorial site outside the main entrance to the USBP Station.  It is open daily for viewing during daylight hours.  Two agents from the USBP sent a request to the NY Port Authority requesting to be considered to receive an artifact.  Last month they received approval and the 2 agents drove to New York to pick up the artifact.  Agents and Volunteers worked day and night to get this memorial built for the 10th anniversary and succeeded.  Members of the Alpine Fire Department and Alpine EMS witnessed the emotional dedication ceremony.  We salute all of those involved in making this memorial possible and dedicate to remember all of those lost on this day ten years ago.....
